Summer is here, and I can smell the sales around the corner. I’m feeling very optimistic about this year for a few reasons.
- Sales are up at Cafepress
Now I know it doesn’t make up for the whole 10% fiasco, but we won’t talk about that anymore. I’ve come to think of Cafepress as my bread and butter. I don’t have to do too much work and it seems I can always count on at least $100.00 a month, even during the slow season. My Zazzle shop does okay, but is not quite that established yet. Sales this year at Cafepress are MUCH better than last year:
March 2009 - 31 items sold
March 2010 - 51 items sold
April 2009 - 23 items sold
April 2010 - 70 items sold
May 1-11 2009 - 17 items sold
May 1-11 2010 - 39 items sold
I don’t know if it’s the economy, or CP’s advertising, but I’m pleased that my sales there have nearly doubled in the past year, even though I’ve done almost nothing in my shops.
- I finally have a logo
This sounds crazy, but after five years I finally have a logo and an official color scheme for my main shop that I like. I’ve gone through multiple redesigns over the past few years and every time I have come up with something, I ended up hating it a few weeks later. I tend to get hung up on these things, because I don’t want to go around promoting my shop when I’m implementing a new half-assed design every few months. But I came up with a new logo and color scheme in February, and I think that this is THE ONE. It’s been three months and I still like it. So it’s staying.
- I have a real website
Thanks to my handy web design class I took this semester, I finally have a real website, instead of some crappy looking pages that I managed to get working. Well, it’s kind of a skeleton of a website right now, but I am gradually adding more content and it should be fully fleshed out by Fall and ready for the Christmas shopping season.
- I’ve decided to start adding designs to Cafepress again
Cafepress has some cool stuff that I want to feature on my website, like the clocks, tiles and tile boxes, ornaments, and the new bags. And when I get sick of adding new sections at Zazzle, doing it the Cafepress way is kind of a nice change. My shop is only about half full, so I have a lot of room for expansion. Might as well use it, and see if I can double or triple my Christmas sales this year.
