December Update

December 13th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The meat of the Christmas shopping season is upon us. December is going well, but not as well as I had hoped. Combination of the economy and a late Thanksgiving I think. I will be lucky to make as much as I did last year. In terms of straight profit I am slightly ahead of where I was last year at this time. That's only due to me having raised my prices, I am actually 47 sales behind in terms of items sold. But the loss of the volume bonus is the painful part. If the old bonus program was in effect I would have nearly a $300 bonus by now. Instead with the new Shop Performance bonus I have the paltry sum of $29.77.

But there is good news. Last year my sales that originated from my shop and not from the marketplace made up a little less than 4% of my December sales. This year my shop sales have accounted for 18% of sales. Thanks to the fact that I finally have my off CP store done and it is starting to pick up steam. I might even make the second bonus level this month.

Zazzle sales are still slow but improving. I don't have nearly the amount of stuff on Zazzle as I do on Cafepress.

Last year my sales started to drop off on the 18th, so I've got about six more days.

Just curious, do you put the same stuff into both shops (Zazzle & Cafepress), or specialize?

I have one store that I’m working on duplicating at Zazzle, but most of my other stores there are more experimental. For example, I’m setting up a photography shop at Zazzle since photography is hard to sell and I don’t want to waste a premium shop on it at Cafepress.
